Labour Market Information

CPISC recently began its new Labour Market Information (LMI) project, which will develop an LMI framework, gather data and produce detailed LMI information for the printing and graphic communications industry.

What is LMI?
Labour market information is a descriptive and statistical picture about occupations, wage rates, unemployment rates, employment outlooks, education and training, and economic trends and conditions. It includes information concerning employment descriptions, industry growth/decline, required skill sets for the job market, wages and working conditions, standards and qualifications, job openings and unemployment rates, labour market programs and labour regulations.

A solid LMI is critical to address the challenges facing the industry.

How will you benefit from LMI?
Accurate and timely national Labour Market Information allows employers to respond to business and workplace challenges, such as recruitment and retention.

CPISC’s LMI will also provide policy-makers, employers, employees and students with the information necessary to make choices that will optimize the contribution of education to their economic growth and the smooth functioning of the labour market. Advance knowledge of expected skills shortages and surpluses allows governments, learners and employers to invest in education that will maximize the return on their investment.

What’s next?
CPISC will be gathering Labour Marketing Information from printing and graphic communications companies in 2012. You will be asked for details on your company such as size, location, primary business functions and workforce, plus average salary, benefits,  positions employed, and hiring/layoff rates. We need your data to compile information from across the country and to create a well-represented LMI.
