Hirings and Recalls
Respondents for the most part (61.2%) anticipate their hiring and recall of employees will remain fixed. 22.4 percent anticipate their organizations will be hiring or recalling employees in the next month—this slight increase in hiring’s may be related to the diverse skill sets employers are seeking to meet the demands created by shifts in technology.
Layoffs
For the most part, employers do not expect lay-offs to increase over the next month with 77.6 percent of employers reporting their lay-offs will remain static. 14.1 percent of employers do, however, anticipate their lay-offs will increase over the next month.
Planned Investment in Training
The majority of respondents (65.9%) report their training budgets to be on par with the amounts allocated to training in the previous year. 18.8 percent of respondents anticipate their training budgets will be higher.
Current Challenges & their HR Implications
As noted in the Summary of Findings a weak market coupled with shifts in technology are impacting the printing and graphic communications workforce.
Employers cite having difficulty locating and retaining qualified employees—particularly in relation to new or innovative business and printing approaches.
