Standards & Certification
Overview
The Skills for the Future Project was designed to develop skill standards and profiles for key occupations within the main production areas that comprise the printing process: prepress, press and bindery and finishing. This project has defined the basic, core and operating skill standards that set out what a person should know and be able to do to complete specific activities, and was used as a basis for developing profiles of key occupations.
A set of agreed-upon national skill standards and profiles will play a key role in improving workforce development for many industry participants.
Certification
The Review of Recognition and Certification Models Project, seeks to develop and implement a certification program for recognizing industry workers based on the established CPISC skill standards.
Accreditation
With the development of a certification program already underway, Accreditation is the next logical step in the process wherein recognition is given to training programs and providers who meet pre-determined standards.
Phase One of this multi-phased project will consist in reviewing relevant accreditation models and developing a strategy for the establishment of a national accreditation program for the Canadian printing and graphic communications industry.
Implementation
The objective of this project is to develop resources and tools to facilitate the implementation and usage of the CPISC skill standards by all members of the industry.
A suite of tools will be made available that will compliment other resources already developed by the Council.
