Self-Assessment Checklist

Step-by-Step Guide to Conducting a Self-Assessment

1. Relevant Skills Checklist – The first step in conducting your
self-assessment is to obtain a copy of the Skills Checklist for the
relevant occupation. CPISC can provide this to you.

2. Levels of Competency – Read through the Levels of Competency
and assess your competency using the Skills Checklist for the
relevant occupation.

Mastery

I am able to demonstrate the learning outcome well
enough to teach it to someone else

Competent

I am able to demonstrate the outcome without
supervision

Learning

I am developing skills and knowledge for this
outcome

None

I have no knowledge or experience with the outcome

Take a few minutes and read through the Skills Checklist. Select the
Tasks for self-assessment. Check your level of competency as you read through each of the Tasks. Sub-tasks provide additional details about each Task. Consider each of the Sub-tasks to help self-assess your competency level for
each Task.

Some things to consider when determining your competency
level are:
–– How do I currently use this Task?
–– What previous training have I had in this Task - workshops, courses, on-the-job?
–– What personal development do I have in this area?
