For the first time, Canadian printing industry employers will be able to access wage subsidy funds under the Career Focus program.
The $651,000 government-funded program is being administered for industry by the Canadian Printing Industries Sector Council, or CPISC.
Career Focus for the Canadian printing industry - launched today - will provide employers with an opportunity to fund up to $12,750 of a new employee’s wages for up to 12 months.
The new program is expected to provide printing companies with an opportunity to support the skills development of new people entering the industry.
Under the program, employers who meet the program’s eligibility criteria will be required to guarantee a minimum of four months of continuous employment for a new employee, who must work for at least 30 hours per week. Employers must also work with employees to make sure they begin to develop some of the skills identified in the CPISC national Skill Standards.
In return, employers will receive a subsidy representing one third of the new employee’s total wage, up to a maximum of $12,750 per employee.
CPISC has funds to support the equivalent of 13 full-year employees in the first year of the program, and similar numbers in subsequent years.
All applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis.
The Career Focus program is funded by the Government of Canada through Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
